IntroductlOn
This report concerns an award of bid to furnish and deliver two (2) conventIOnal pick-up
trucks wIth bIn hft for the Solid Waste Management DIvIsIon, EnvIronmental and Public
Works Management Department In the total amount of $60,258 44, including applicable
sales tax
Backaround
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published June 19 and 20, 1997) to
furnish and deliver two (2) conventional pick-up trucks with bin Irfl In accordance With
CIty specifications, bids were receIved and publicly opened and read on July 3, 1997
Proposal forms were mailed to four vendors and notices were advertised In accordance
With City Charter and MUnicipal Code proVIsions Two proposals were receIved as
follows

The two vehicles wIll replace a 1986 and 1988 bm truck as a part of the vehicle
management program and will be used by Solid Waste Management DIVIsion to
transport refuse collection bins from collectIon sItes to the refuse packers
These bin trucks are not manufactured with an alternatIve fuel-powered engme The
purchase of thiS diesel-powered loader IS consistent wIth the City's reduced emiSSIons
fuel pohcy There IS no California AIr Resources Board (CARB) approved conversion
kIt available for these vehicles at thiS time
The bid submitted by Wondrres Chevrolet IS non-responsive The wheel base exceeds
CIty specIfications by 551" wIdth by 5 3" and heIght by 5 2" whIch can cause
maneuverabIlity problems ThiS unit IS used to retrieve trash bins from underground
parking structures and tight areas Staff has evaluated the bid submitted by Claude
Short Dodge and finds that It meets City speCifications

It IS recommended that Council reject the bid submitted by Wondnes Chevrolet and that
award of Bid #2655 be made to Claude Short Dodge In the total amount of $60,258 44,
including applicable tax, as the most responsible bIdder
