IntroductIOn
ThiS report concerns an award of bid to furnish and deliver one (1) two-wheel dnve
bucket loader with umtlzed side shift backhoe for the Water DIVIsion, Environmental and
Public Works Management Department In the total amount of $52,42612, including
applicable sales tax
Backaround
In response to published Notices InvIting BIds (published June 27 and 3D, 1997) to
furnish and dehver one (1) 2-wheel drive bucket loader with unitized Side shift backhoe In
accordance with City speCificatIons, bids were received and publicly opened and read on
July 21,1997 Proposal forms were mailed to four vendors and notices were advertised
In accordance with City Charter and MUniCipal Code provIsions Two proposals were
received as follows

This loader IS not manufactured with an alternative fuel powered engine The purchase
of this diesel-powered loader IS consistent with the City'S reduced emiSSions fuel polley
There /s no Callforma AIr Resources Board (CARB) approved conversIon kIt avaIlable for
these vehicles at this time
This vehicle will replace a 1985 backhoe/loader as a part of the vehicle management
program and will be used for the repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines Staff
conducted a demonstration of the loader offered by Bengal Equipment and finds that It
does perform as specified Staff has also contacted the City of Inglewood and Ontario
which have a SImilar model and they indicated that the servIce support and reliability of
the umt IS excellent Staff has evaluated the low bId and finds that It meets City
specifications

It IS recommended that the award of Bid #2643 be made to Bengal EquIpment & Tractor
Company In the total amount of $52,426 12, including apphcable tax, as the lowest
responsible bidder
