SUBJECT RECOMMENDA TION TO APPROVE A RANGE OF DATES FOR PACIFIC
PARK'S GRAND OPENING FIREWORKS CELEBRATION
INTRODUCTION
The following report recommends approval of a range of dates for Pacific Park's grand
opening celebration fireworks display. The date will be set on a Fnday between July
26 and August 11, 1996, and will cOincide with the opening of the roller coaster
BACKGROUND
On May 14, 1996, the City Council, at the recommendation of the City's Event
Management T earn, approved a request from Pacific Park staff and the Pier
RestoratIon CorporatIon board to stage a fIreworks dIsplay on a barge In the Santa
MOnica Bay In conjunction with their grand opening on June 28, 1996 However, due
to a delay In receiving roller coaster equipment, the grand opening celebration was
postponed.
DISCUSSION
Pacific Park staff IS requesting that the City Council approve a range of dates for their
grand opening celebration which will cOincide With the opening of the roller coaster
They have requested approval of the fireworks display for a Fnday evening between
July 26 and August 11, 1 996 All other plans for the event remain the same 6A

BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT
Event organizers will assume and pay all event costsl including the cost for police
serVices, estimated at $3,437
RECOMMENDA TION
Staff recommends that Council approve a range of dates for Pacific Park's grand
opening celebration fireworks display which will be set on a Frrday between July 26
and August 111 19961 and will cOincide wIth the opening of the roller coaster. Staff
also recommends that the new date be subject to staff approval and be submitted to
staff at least 10 days In advance of event
