SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Provide Brake Services and Repairs
for Police Vehicles, Bid #2596
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to provide brake services and repairs for Police
vehicles for the Administrative Services DIvIsion, Police Department, at specified
Unit prices, plus applicable sales tax, with two (2) one-year renewal options.
Estimated annual expenditure IS $30,000.
Backqround
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published August 16 and 17, 1996)
to provide brake services and repairs for Police vehicles In accordance with City
specifIcations, bids were received and publicly opened and read on August 26,
1 996 Proposal forms were maIled to four ven~ors and notices were advertised In
accordance with City Charter and MUnicipal Code provIsions. Two proposals were
received as follows

ThIS bid covers routine brake services and repairs as required for Police patrol and
administrative vehicles
Midas offers a lower hourly labor rate as well as a higher percentage discount off
of manufacturer's current published list pnces on parts. A higher discount on parts
Will result In a lower net cost to the City.
Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that It meets City specifications.

RecommendatIon
It IS recommended that the award of Bid #2596 be made to Midas Santa Monica at
specified unit prices, plus applicable sales tax, as the lowest responsible bidder,
with two (2) one-year renewal options.
