ThiS report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver one (1) new and unused 1996
type III, slant side modular ambulance mounted on a new and unused 1996 Ford cut-
away 10,000 GVW chaSSIS for the Fire Suppression and Rescue DIVIsion, Fire
Department, In the total amount of $86,425 33, Including applrcable sales tax
BackQround
The Fire Department's dally operation Includes haVing two (2) first response
ambulances on duty and one (1) reserve Unit. The reserve Unit, a 1988 Stoner Type II
ambulance, recently expenenced mechanical problems which have been deemed too
cost prohibitive to repair as the cost of the repairs exceeds the current market value of
thiS ambulance
Ackerman Emergency EqUipment, Inc has In stock a 1996 Ford Cut-Away 10,000 GVW
ChaSSIS and has confirmed that a pnor bid pnce which Council approved (Bid #2563) on
May 14, 1996, WIll be extended for thiS purchase.

delay of delivery of this ambulance as well as an Increase In pnce
This purchase IS consistent with the provIsions of Section 224 080(2} of the City of
Santa MOnica MUnicipal Code Additionally, by uSing the City'S prior Bid #2563, delivery
of the ambulance would be Immediate
ThiS ambulance Will be replacing a 1988 Ford diesel powered, type II Stoner high top
ambulance The new ambulance Will also be diesel powered and IS consistent with the
City'S reduced emiSSions fuel policy
Staff has evaluated the bid submitted by Ackerman Emergency Equipment, Inc and
finds that it meets City specificatIons

number 54-710-461-20097-8900-99167, "Fleet Vehicle Replacement Program"
Recommendation
It IS recommended that the award of bid be made to Ackerman Emergency Equipment,
