SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver One (1) New 1995
CNG Powered One-Ton Cab and ChassIs
IntroductIOn
This report concerns award of bid to furnIsh and deliver one (1) new 1995 CNG
powered one-ton cab and chassIs for the Fleet DIvIsion, Environmental and Public
Works Management Department, In the total amount of $30,870.73, including
applicable sales tax
Backqround
Maurice Sopp and Son has In stock a 1995 CNG powered one-ton cab and chassIs
and has confirmed that a prior bId price of $30,870.73 whIch Council approved (Bid
#2550) on November 28, 1995, Will be extended for thiS purchase. Staff has
contacted other vendors and none have the vehicle In stock, and the cut-off has
passed for orders on 1995 models. Staff evaluated the 1996 models and there IS no
California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved kit available to convert the engine In
a 1996 model to CNG.
ThIS purchase IS consistent With the prOVISions of Ordinance Number 1754 (CCS)
Section 5, paragraph 2.24080 (2) of the City of Santa MOnica Municipal Code which

allows exception to competitive bidding when competitive bid procedures have
already been utilized
Additionally, by uSing the City's prior bid number 2550, delivery of the vehicle would
be Immediate. This IS the last vehicle (1995) available In the State of California.
This vehIcle will be used by Fleet Marntenance to respond to road calls and It Will be a
mobile CNG refueling vehicle as needed for other City CNG vehicles.
The purchase of this CNG powered vehicles IS consIstent with the City's reduced
emiSSion fuel policy.
Staff has evaluated the bid submItted by Maurice Sopp and Son and finds that It
meets City speCifications

Appropriation authority for thIs purchase IS In the Capital Improvement Budget,
account number 54-710-461-20097-8900-99167 "Fleet Vehicle Replacement
Program"
RecommendatIon
It IS recommended that the award of bid be made to Maurice Sopp & Son In the total
amount of $30,870 73, Including applicable tax.
