Council Meeting: September 10, 1996 Santa Monica, California
TO: Mayor and City Council 6J
FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: Recommendation to Authorize the City Manager to NegSEfa4eO m96
and Execute a Contract with Patricia Smith, ASLA to
Prepare a Feasibility Study for the Non-aviation portions
of the Residual Land at Santa Monica Airport
INTRODUCTION
This report recommends that the city council authorize the City
Manager to negotiate and execute a contract with Patricia smith,
ASLA to prepare a feasibility study for the non-aviation portions
of the Residual Land at Santa Monica Airport for an amount not to
exceed $180,000.
BACKGROUND
At the June 25, 1996 council meeting, the City Council appropriated
funding in the amount of $180,000 to begin a study to evaluate
alternatives for future use of the non-aviation portions of the
residual land at Santa Monica Airport. At that time it was
anticipated that this study would commence in the Spring of 1997.
However, given the strong interest in this land for open space use
as expressed by the community during Phase I of the preparation of
the Open Space Element/Parks and Recreation Master Plan, city staff
has reconsidered the schedule and time frame. Staff believes that
it is critical to gain a timely understanding of the opportunities
and constraints associated with this land and identify reasonable
alternatives for its future use. SEP 1 0 1996
