SUBJECT Recommendation to consider substitution of fabrication matenal for Santa
Monlca/Mallbu Education Foundation Commemorative Art Project
On February 25, 1997 the City Council authorized staff to accept the donation of
artwork from the Santa MOnlca/Mallbu Education Foundation for installation on the
Third Street Promenade When presented to CounCIl the upturned school bells were to
be fabncated of bronze, aluminum and cast concrete Jacquehne Dreagar, the artist,
and the Santa MOnlca/Mallbu Education Foundation have determined that cast polymer
rather than concrete should be used A prototype of the art piece has not been
ava]lable for Inspection, but color photographs are attached to thiS report Because the
proposal to the City CounCil speCifically stated that the work would be of bronze,
aluminum It IS recommended that the CounCil conSider accepting the art pieces as
actually fabncated uSing bronze, aluminum and cast polymer
