SUBJECT Adoption of Resolution Establishing Salary Rates for Utilities Manager and
Video Student Intern
INTRODUCTION
This report requests adoption of the attached salary resolutlOn establishing salary rates
for Utilities Manager and Video Student Intern The Personnel Board has reviewed and
approved all of the new and revised clasSIficatIon speclflcatlOns
BACKGROUND
A recent recrUItment for the pOSItIon of UtIlitIes Manager revealed that the establIshed
salary for this claSSIfication was not competitive With utility dlstrrcts With whom the
City competes for qualified candidates An equity adJustment IS indicated In order to
make the City's salary competItIve The salary recommendatIon IS based on relevant
external alignment factors.
The temporary pOSitIOn classificatIon speCIfIcatIon of VIdeo Student Intern has been
developed to properly reflect the Job duties of temporary staff assigned to work In the
Cable TeleVISion DIvISion. The salary recommendation IS based on external and Internal
eqUIty alignment factors

BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT
Adoption of the attached salary resolution will have no financial Impact because
recommended salary levels are consistent with salary rates contained In the Fiscal Year
1997-98 budget
RECOMMENDA TIONS
It IS recommended that the City CouncIl adopt the attached salary resolution
establishing the new salary rates for Utilities Manager and Video Student Intern

CLASSIFICA TIONS AND ADOPTING SALARY RATES
FOR UTILITIES MANAGER AND VIDEO STUDENT INTERN
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS-
SECTION 1 The follOWing hourly salary levels are hereby established, effective
July 1, 1997, for the indicated permanent clasSificatIons'
UTILITIES MANAGER
$8,206/Month E-Step
($8, lBO/Month WIth PERS)
SECTION 2 The follOWing hourly salary levels are hereby established, effective
July 1, 1997, for the indicated temporary clasSIficatIon
VIDEO STUDENT INTERN
$5.75/hr A-Step
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of thiS Resolution, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be In full force and effect
