SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
One (1) New 11,000 Gross Vehicle weight Rated (GVWR)
Cab and Chassis with Water Tank and Pump, Bid #2386
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver one (1)
new 11,000 GVWR Cab and Chassis with water Tank and Pump for the
Parks Division, Cultural and Recreation Services Department, in
the total amount of $25,758.09, including applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published
October 10 and II, 1991) to furnish and deliver one (1) new
11,000 GVWR Cab and Chassis with Water Tank and Pump in
accordance with City specifications, bids were received and
publicly opened and read on October 28, 1991.
Proposal forms
were mailed to sixteen vendors and notices were advertised in
accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Four
proposals were received as follows:

This acquisition conforms with the City's policy of alternative
fuel vehicles. It will be propane powered. Propane fueling
facilities currently exist and no further modification to the
vehicle is required. City staff is moving toward Compressed
Natural Gas (CNG) powered vehicles, however, there are no CNG
fueling facilities currently available in or near Santa Monica.
This vehicle will be used for watering city trees and tree wells
on newly and previously planted trees. staff has evaluated the
low bid and finds that it meets City specifications.
Budget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1991/92 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Parks Division, Cultural and Recreation services
Department, account number 01-400-511-00000-8801-00000.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2386 be made to Downey
Auto Center in the total amount of $25,758.09, including
applicable tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
