SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
One (1) New 3/4-Ton Vehicle with 4-Wheel Drive, Bid #2384
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver one (1)
new 3/4-ton vehicle with 4-wheel drive for the Fire Department, in
the total amount of $25,240.88, including applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published
October 10 and 11, 1991) to furnish and deliver one (1) new 3/4-ton
vehicle with 4-wheel drive in accordance with city specifications,
bids were received and publicly opened and read on January 7, 1992.
Proposal forms were mailed to nine vendors and notices were
advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code
provisions. Three proposals were received as follows:

Although vehicle is not alternate fuel poweredt this
acquisition does conform with the Cityls policy on gasoline powered
vehicles. This vehicle will be a front line piece of fire
apparatus. It will be used to respond in many areas outside the
City and could be put in service, through mutual aidt anywhere in
the state. Because of its response status, it must be able to be
fueled anywhere in the state. In addition to fueling requirements,
it is subject to use in hilly terrain and extended response areas
where high performance is required. For these areas this vehicle
should not be used with alternate fuels currently available.
Staff has evaluated the bid for a gasoline powered vehicle and
finds that it meets City specifications.
Budget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1991/92 appropriation authority for this purchase is in
the Fire Department, account number 01-800-313-00000-8806-00000.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2384 be made to Maurice
Sopp Chevrolet in the total amount of $25,240.88, including
applicable tax, as the lowest and best bidder.

and Chassis with Service Type Body, Bid #2385
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver one (1)
new 8,500 GVWR Cab and Chassis with Service Type Body for the
Electrical Facilities Division, General Services Department, in
the total amount of $17,209.59, including applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published
October 10 and II, 1991) to furnish and deliver one ( 1) new 8,500
GVWR Cab and Chassis with Service Type Body in accordance with
City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and
read on october 28, 1991. proposal forms were mailed to
seventeen vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with
city Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Six proposals were
received as follows:

This acquisition conforms with the City's policy of alternative
fuel vehicles. It will be propane powered. Propane fueling
facilities currently exist and no further modification to the
vehicle is required. City staff is moving toward Compressed
Natural Gas (CNG) powered vehicles, however, there are no CNG
fueling facilities currently available in or near Santa Monica.
This vehicle will be used by the electricians for general repair
work. Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets
City specifications.

in the Electrical Facilities Division, General Services
Department, account number 01-500-453-00000-8806-00000.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2385 be made to Santa
