the FY 1988-89 "Aid to Cities" (ATC) Carry-OVer Gas Tax for the
purpose of reconstructing Fourth street from the Santa Monica

Background
The County of Los Angeles appropriates a portion of Gas Tax funds
to cities within the County for the purpose of maintaining
"Select System" streets. "Select Systeml1 streets are those
streets classified as arterials - such as Fourth Street, Lincoln
Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard. Fourth street was selected by
City staff because the pavement on Fourth street is badly
deteriorated and is in need of repair. The County concurred with
staff's selection because Fourth Street is an arterial street, is
in poor condition, and has County-wide significance. The project
is titled "Reconstruction of Fourth Street, from North of Route
10 (Santa Monica Freeway) to Broadway."
In order to receive the funds from the County, Council must
request these funds by resolution. The total amount of

have already been requested by the Parking and Traffic Division.

Following approval of this resolution by City council, City staff
will begin preparing Engineering plans in accordance with the
