Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver cotton rags at speCIfied unit
prices, plus applicable sales tax, with two one-year renewal options
Backaround
In response to published notices inViting bids (published June 18 and 19, 1997) to furnish
and deliver cotton rags In accordance with City speCifications, bids were received and
publIcly opened and read on June 30, 1997 Proposal forms were mailed to ten vendors
and notices were advertised In accordance with City Charter and MuniCipal Code
provISions Eight proposals were received as follows

The cotton rags are used by various City departments for c1eanrng office spaces and for
use while working on vehicles.
The City'S specifications were for 100% cotton rags The samples provided by Crane Bag
and Ray Lotto, Inc did not meet City specifications, as the samples provided by both
vendors were cotton/polyester blends When workmg on hot vehIcle engine parts, the
cotton/polyester blend rags tested began to melt When used for wiping up spills or
c1eanrng office spaces, the polyester content of the sample rags did not provide adequate
absorption
Staff has evaluated the bid submitted by R & S Distributing and finds that It meets City
specifications

accounts of vanous departments As the matenals are drawn out of Inventory, they will be
expensed against available FY 1997-98 appropnatlon authonty The estimated annual
expenditure IS $40,000.00
