SUBJECT: Resolution Declaring Intention to Amend Ordinance Number 725 (CCS) To Increase Amount of Revenues Allocable to Collection Expenses The City of Santa Monica has created by ordinance various business promotion districts under the Parking and Business Improvement Area Law of 1965, Streets and Highways Code Section 36000 ~ seq. Under these ordinances, revenue is raised by increasing the amount of the business license taxes paid by merchants. The additional revenue, less costs of collection, is turned over to the Chamber of Commerce for business promotion activities. The Director of Finance has reported that the Cityts actual cost of collection exceeds the collection expenses allocated by the ordinances. Under the ordinance creating the downtown promotion area, one percent (1%) is allocated for collection expenses. Under the ordinance creating the Montana Avenue promotion area, five percent (5%) is allocated for collection expenses. The Director of Finance has determined that the City's collection costs can be recovered by increasing the collection allocation for the downtown promotion area from .~~: q-A.
