SUBJECT Recommendation to Award a Purchase Order to GCS Western Power &
Equipment for the Purchase of Two (2) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)
Regenerative Air Sweepers for Street Sweepmg DIvIsion
Introduction
This report recommends the purchase of two CNG Regenerative Air Sweepers for the
Street Sweeping DIvIsion, Environmental and Public Works Management Department, as
part of the VehIcle Replacement Program, In the total amount of $313,07850, Including
applicable sales tax
Backaround
On June 17, 1997, the City Council approved Bid #2634 for one CNG regeneratIve air
sweeper to GCS Western Power & Equipment GCS Western Power & Equipment has
confIrmed that they are WIlling to extend their prior bid to the purchase of two additional
sweepers at the same pnce, terms and conditions This purchase IS consistent with the
prOVIsions of Ordmance Number 1743(CCS) Section 224080(2) of the City MUnicipal
Code, which allows exceptions to competitive bidding when competitive bId procedures
have already been utilized

These sweepers will replace 1985 and 1986 Diesel powered sweepers as part of the
vehicle replacement program and Will be used for street sweepmg
