BACKGROUND As part of Personnel's routine updatIng of eXIsting claSSIficatIon speCIficatIons, the Police OffIcer claSSIficatIon speCIficatIon has been reVIsed to lnclude as "MInImum Standardll, "Successful completIon of the Basic TraInIng Course as prescribed by the CalifornIa CommiSSIon on Peace OffIcer Standards and TraInIng (P.O.S.T.)" ThIS IS In accordance with P.O.S.T. regulatIons which became effectIve January 26, 1984. InformatIon Systems DIrector IS a reVIsed version of Management InformatIon Systems AdmInIstrator. The claSSIfIcation speCIficatIon has been revised In VIew of the fact that the pOSItIon will now functIon as a full CIty Department Head, Instead of a DIVIsion Head withIn the City Manager's OffIce. - 1 - '--I MAR '/ 1. , ~ FIre Prevention Inspector, FIre PreventIon EngIneer and Police Range/Supply SpecialIst are sImply retItlings of FIre ProtectIon Inspector, FIre ProtectIon Eng Ineer and Rangemaster. These new titles are descrIptIve of the dutIes actually performed by incumbents and In the case of Rangemaster, eliminates a "gender" Implication. BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT No salary changes are assoCIated wIth these reVISIons. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that Council adopt the attached classification speclflcatlons. Prepared By: Susan E. Performs related duties as requlred. TYPICAL DUTIES: Patrols an asslgned area of the clty by car, foot, or three-wheel motorcycle. Responds to emergencies as directed by radio. Invest1gates unusual or susplcious condltlons. Directs traffic at congested areas and investigates trafflC accidents. Makes arrests, issues citations, lnvestigates Vlce conditions, and serves subpoenas and warrants. Analyzes facts, clues, and eVldence to determine the identlty and whereabouts of violators. Provides information and assistance to the public. Questions suspects and guards prisoners. Notes and reports hazardous conditions. Searches for stolen property and lost persons. DESIRABLE TRAIN!NG AND EXPERIENCE: Graduatlon from hlgh school. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Usually works under technical supervision of a Pollce Sergeant, but may work directly under a pol1ce Lieutenant, Police Captain or the police Chief, who make detailed work assignments and frequently review work in progress and upon completion. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May exercise technical supervision over a Reserve Police Offlcer or non-sworn Police personnel, outlining the work and frequently reviewing work 1n progress and upon completion. Subject to administrative approval, plans, manages and coordInates the efforts of users and data processing staff to establish, ma~ntain and improve automated information systems. DESIRABLE TRAINING Al~D EXPERIENCE. Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computor Science, or Business Administration. Eight years experience ~n the development of automated information systems, includlng two years in a management capac~ty.
