ThIS report requests approval of two revlsed c1asslflcatlon
specIfIcatIons, approved by the Personnel Board at theIr regular
meetIng of eIther September 9, 1985, or October 14, 1985. For
ease of reference, the reVIsed specIfIcatIons are presented show-
Ing deletIons from (parentheses) and addItIons to (double under-
lInIng) the orIgInal speCIfIcatIon.

The recommended specification more accurately descrIbes the role
of this position With regard to the Pier itself, as well as the
more tradItional water-related safety functions.
The revIsed speCIfIcatIon for AssIstant PurchasIng Agent will
more accurately reflect the actual duties and responsibIlIties
assIgned to thIS pOSItIon. The reViSion has been occasioned by
the announced retirement of the Incumbent. Based on an analYSIS
of Internal relatIonshIp factors, an E-Step salary rate of
$3158./month ($3379./month With PERS) IS recommended. ThiS rep-
resents a reductIon from the current E-Step rate of $34~~./month
($3638./month WIth PERS). It IS recommended that the new rate
become effectIve December 31, 1985, follOWing the retIrement of
the incumbent. If approved, the reVIsed rate WIll be advertised
during the recrUitment process.
Fiscal Impact
The reVised salary rate recommended for ASSistant PurchaSIng
Agent represents a reduction of $242./month at the E-Step. No
additional funds are reqUired to support thIS recommendation.
