SUBJECT:
Resolution Approving Destruction of
Obsolete Records of Police Department
Governme.nt;. Code Section 34090 authorizes the destruc-
tion of certain records upon the request of a department head
Lf the City Attorney has given written consent for the des-
truction of the records and if the City Council approves the
destruction of the records by resolution.
The Chief of
Police has requested that certain obsolete records be des-
troyed. A complete description of the records sought to be
destroyed is contained in Exhibit "A" accompanying the reso-
lution.
The City Attorney has approved the destruction of
these records.
RECOMMENDATION
It 15 respectfully recommended that the accompany ing
resolution be adopted.

~HEREASr it has been determIned that certal~ records of
the Cl ty of Santa Monlca under the charge of the Pollce
Depart~ent are no longer requIred for publIC or pr~vate pur-
poses;. and
WHEREAS, the destructIon of the records IS necessary to
conserve storage space and to reduce staff tIme, expense, and
confUSIon In handlIng and InformIng the public; and
\~HBREAS, Government Code SectIon 34090 authorIzes the
CI ty of San':.a l'lonlca to destroy certaIn records over V;.vO
years old w~thout mak~ng a copy thereof after the same are no'
longer requI red ana upon the wr 1 t ten consent of the CI ty
Attorney and the ap?roval of the CIty CounCIl by resolutlon;
and
WHEREAS, the CIty COJDCIl has been requested to approve
