SR-701-001 (9) 1.1: I PD:JFK:HB:tm March 12, 1985 ?t?/- tJtJ/ Sa~ta MonIca, Califo~nla 6- P MAR 1 Z 1985 TO: Mayor and CIty CouncIl FROM: CIty Staff SUBJECT: Acceptance of Grant Awa~d and T~ansfe~ of Funds for Motorcycle T~affic Section INTRODUCTION ThIS report requests the CIty Council to accept a grant award from the State's OffIce of Traffic Safety, to authorIze a trans- fer of funds in the 1984-85 budget to purchase start-up equipment for the Motorcycle TraffIC SectIon and to increase the staffIng In the OperatIons DiviSIon by six police offICer positions. BACKGROUND At the January 8, 1985, CIty CounCIl Meetl~g, CounCIl passed a resclution apprOVIng the applIcation for grant funds to develop a Motorcycle T~affic SectIon. The grant funds the proJect for a two-year perIod commencIng AprIl 1, 1985, and ending March 31, 1985. At that time, a detaIled fundi~g plan was transmItted to Cou~CIl reportIng the total grant at $751,815. SInce then, a final grant agreement has been reached and the tetal approved at $598,968. The $152,847 dlfference 15 an IDcrease to the CItytS pet two-year contrlbut~cn whereby the CIty WIll aSSIgn a sergea~t to SUperVIse the SectIon plus ffilscellaneous adjustments to over- tIme. The Clty funds ~eeded for flscal years 1985-86 and 1986-87 WIll be Included In the budget for those years. 6-P MAR 1 2 IgS5 .... i..,If . .. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that City Cou~cll: 1. Approve the grant award from the State's Office of TraffIC Safety. 2. Approve the transfer of $67,312 from SalarIes and Wages to Capital Outlay and Supply and Expense accounts within the Police Department's 1984-85 budget. 3.
