SUBJECT: Resolution Setting Saturday, October 5, 1985, as
"Crime Watch '85 Day"
INTRODUCTION
This report requests the City Council to set Saturday, October 5,
1985 as "Crime Watch '85 Day.1I
BACKGROUND
The Santa Monica Unified Radio Volunteers, associated with the
Santa Monica Police Department, is a specialized extension of
Neighborhood Watch and Community Watch programs. The organiza-
tion is composed of Santa Monica residents who are personal radio
service licensees. SURV members regularly provide surveillance
of criminal or emergency incidents on a continual basis. Spe-
cialized communication equipment, which is located in the Police
Department's Communication Center, is dedicated to SURV.
"Crime watch 1851', an all day seminar, will be held in coopera-
tion with the Los Angeles Police Department Radio Volunteer
groups. The event will be held on saturday, October 5, 1985, at
the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

Volunteer groups using communication equipment as the basis of
their crime prevention programs will be the main participants of
the seminar. Some thirty different organizations and police de-
partments will participate.
BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT
None
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended the city Council adopt the attached Resolution
setting Saturday, October 5, 1985, as "Crim.e Watch '85 Day."

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
AUTHORIZING THE SETTING OF SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1985, AS
IICRIME WATCH '85 DAylI
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Saturday, October 5, 1985, is designated as
"crime Watch '85 Day." "crime Watch '8511 honors those volunteer
groups who utilize communication equipment as the basis of their
crime prevention programs.
SECTION 2. The city Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
