SUBJECT: Status Report from Citizens Advlsory Commlttee to Clvil Defense
and Disaster Councll
Introduction
On July 27. 1982 the City Council established the Citizen Advlsory Committee to
the City1s Clvil Defense and Disaster Counell. The charge of the Advisory
Commlttee was to evaluate the plans proposed to protect Santa Monica citlzens
ln the event of a nuclear war and to adVlse Council on appropriate responses to
such olans as well as possible activity related to the entire issue of nuclear
war planning.
Update
The 16 member advisory committee met on September 30 and agreed to hold day long
publlC hearings on Tuesday, October 26, 1982. Representatives of official state.
county and federal clvil defense organizations wlll be invited to present the
current admlnistration1s approach. In addltion experts from the medical and
scientific communltles wlll be lnvited to present positlons crltlcal of the
current governmental approaches. The hearings will be held from 9:30 - 2:30
ln the City Council Chambers. The public will be invited to make comment ln
the afternoon portlon of the hearlngs. Speakers invited wlll include:
