Resolut2on Extending Proclamations of Local Emergency
On January 27 I 1983 I the Director of Emergency Services,
pursuant to Municipal Code Section 2305, proclaimed a local
emergency to exist wlthin the City of Santa Monica and made and
issued certain rules and regulations.
On February 1, 1983, the
City Council adopted Resolution Number 6621 (CCS) ratifying,
confirming, and approvlng the Dlrector of Emergency Serv ices I
proclamation of local emergency and the rules, regulatlons, and
actions taken pursuant thereto.
On March I, 1983, the Director of Emergency Serv 2ces,
pursuant to Munlclpal Code Section 2305, proclaimed a local
emergency to exist within the Clty of Santa Monica and made and
lssued certain rules and regulatlons. On March 8, 1983, the City
Council adopted Resolutlon Number 6642 (CCS) ratifY2ng,
conflrming, and approvlng the Dlrector of Emergency Services I
proclamatlon of local emergency and the rules, regulatlons, and
actlons taken pursuant thereto.
Government Code Section 8630 requlres that the Clty Councll
revlew at least every 14 days the need for continulng the local

emergency. At the present time, conditions do not warrant the
termination of the local emergency.
RECOMMENDATION
It 1S respectfully recommended that the accompanY1ng
resolut1on be adopted.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA PROCLAIMING THE
CONTINUED EXISTENCE OF THE LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, Municipal Code Section 2305 authorizes the
Director of Emergency Services to proclaim the existence or
threatened existence of a local emergency when the City of Santa
Monica is affected or likely to be affected by a public calamity
and th~City Council is not in session; and

WHEREAS, commencing on January 27, 1983, conditions of
extreme peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen
within the City of Santa Monica caused by storm, high tides, and

heavy surf; and
WHEREAS, the City Council was not in session on January 27,
1983; and
WHEREAS, on January 27, 1983, the Director of Emergency
Services of the City of Santa Monica did proclaim the existence
of a local emergency within the City of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, on February 1, 1983, the City Council adopted
Resolution Number 6621 (CCS), rat1fying, confirming, and
approving, the proclamation of local emergency by the D1rector of
Emergency Services; and

of a local emergency within the City of Santa Monica: and
WHEREAS, on March 8, 1983, the City Council adopted
Resolution Number 6642 (CCS), ratifying, confirming, and
approving, the proclamation of local emergency by the Director of
EmergeQcy Services; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code Section 8630, the City
Council has reviewed the need to continue the local emergency,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA

MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
The local emergency as proclaimed by the
Director of Emergency Services on Jan uary 27, 1983, sha 11 be
deemed to continue to exist in the City of Santa Monica until its
termination is proclaimed by the City Counc il of the City of
Santa Monica.
SECTION 2.
The local emergency as proclaimed by the
Director of Emergency Services on March 1, 1983, shall be deemed
to continue to exist in the City of Santa Monica until its
termination is proclaimed by the City Council of the City of
Santa Monica.

SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
