Resolut1on Extending Proclamations of Local Emergency
On January 27, 1983, the Director of EJTlergency Services,
pursuant to Mun~clpal Code Sectlon 2305, proclaimed a local
emergency to exist withln the Clty of Santa Mon~ca and ]Tlade and
lssued certaln rules and regulations.
On February 1, 1983, the
City Council adopted Resol ut~on Number 6621 (CCS) rati fying,
confirmlng, and approving the Director of Emergency Services I
proClaJTlatlon of local emergency and the rules, regulations, and
actlons taken pursuant thereto.
On March 1, 1983, the Director of Emergency Services,
pursuant to Munic1pal Code Sectlon 2305, proclaimed a local
emergency to eXlst within the City of Santa Mon~ca and made and
lssued certa~n rules and regulations. On March 8, 1983, the City
Councll adopted Resolutlon Number 6642 (CCS) ratifying,
confirming, and approving the Director of Emergency Services I
proclamation of local emergency and the rules, regulat1ons, and
actions taken pursuant thereto.
Government Code Section 8630 requires that the Clty Council
reVlew at least every 14 days the need for continuing the local

emergency.
At the present time, conditions do not warrant the
terMlnatlon of the local emergency.
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the accompanying
resolutlon be adopted.

HHEREAS, Munlclpal Code Sect1.0n 2305 authorlzes the
Dlrector of Emergency SerVlces to proclalm the eXlstence or
threatened eXlstence of a local emergency when the Clty of Santa
MOhlca 15 affected or llkely to be affected by a pub11C ca1anlty
and the Clty Councll 1S not ln session; and
WHEREAS, conunencing on January 27, 1983, cond1tlons of
extreme peril to the safety of persons and property have arlsen
wlthln the Clty of Santa MOhlca caused by storm, hlgh tldes, and
he avy surf; and
WHEREAS, the Clty Caunell was not in seSSlon on January 27,
1983; and
WHEREAS, -::>n January 27," 1983, the Dlrector of Ex-ergency
SerVlces of the Clty of Santa MOhlca dld proc1al~ t~e eX1ste~ce
of a local e~ergency wlthln the Clty of Santa MOhlca; and
HHEREAS, on February 1, 1983, the Clty Councl1 adopted

WHEREAS, commencing on March 1, 1983, condit10ns of extreMe

surf; and
WHEREAS, the City Councll was not In session at the time of
conditlons glving rise to the emergency; and
WHEREAS, on March 1, 1983, the Director of Emergency
Services of the City of Santa Monica did proclaim the eX1stence
of a local emergency within the City of Santa Monlca; and
->'"WHEREAS, on March 8, 1983, the City Council adopted
Resolution Number 6642 (CCS}, ratifying, confirming, and
approving, the proclamation of local emergency by the Dlrector of
Emergency Services; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code Section 8630, the City
Council has revl.ewed the need' to continue the local emergency,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF StI.NTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The local emergency as proclalmed by the
D1rector of Emergency Servlces on January 27, 1983, shall be
deemed to contlnue to exist 1n ~he Clty of Santa Mon1ca unt1l its
terminatl.on is proclaimed by the City Councl1 of the Clty of
Santa Monica.
SECTION 2. The local emergency as procla1med by the
Director of Emergency Services on March 1, 1983, shall be deemed
to continue to exist l.n the City of Santa Monica until 1ts
termination is proclaimed by the Ci ty Counc i 1 of the Cl. ty 0 f
Santa Monica.

SECTION 3. The Clty Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolut~on, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
