Resolut~on Extend~ng Proclamations of Local Emergency
On January 27, 1983, the D~rector of Emergency Services,
pursuant to Mun~clpal Code Section 2 305, proela~med a local
emergency to eX~st w~th~n the City of Santa Monlca and made and
issued certa~n rules and regulatlons.
On February 1, 1983, the
Cl ty COUDCll adopted Reso 1 u tlon Number 6621 (CCS) ratl fying ,
conf~rm~ng, and approv~ng the Director of Emergency Services I
proclamatlon of local emergency and the rules, regulatlons, and
act~ons taken pursuant thereto.
On Harch 1, 1983, the D~rector of Emergency Servlces,
pursuant to Mun~c~pal Code Sect~on 2305, proclaimed a local
emergency to exist w~thln the C~ty of Santa Monlca and made and
Lssued certa~n rules and regulatlons. On March 8, 1983, the CLty
Councll adopted Resolution Number 6642 (CCS) ratifYlng,
conf~rming, and approvLng the Dlrector of Emergency Services I
proclamation of local emergency and the rules, regulat~ons, and
actlons taken pursuant thereto.
Government Code SeetloD 8630 requlres that the City Council
reVlew at least every 14 days the need for eontlnu~ng the local

emergency. At the present t1me, condit1ons do not warrant the
term1nat1on of the local emergency.
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the accompanY1ng
resolut1on be adopted.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA PROCLAIMING THE
CONTINUED EXISTENCE OF TEE LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, Municipal Code Section 2305 authorizes the
D1rector of Emergency Services to proclaim the existence or
threatened existence of a local emergency when the City of Santa
Mon1ca 1S affected or l1kely to be affected by a publ~c calamity
and the City Council ~s not in session; and
WHEREAS, commencing on January 27, 1983, c ond1 tions of
extreme per1l to the safety of persons and property have arisen
w1th1n the C~ty of Santa Monica caused by storm, h1gh tides, and
heavy surf; and
WHEREAS, the C1ty Counc~l was not in seSS10n on January 27,
1983; and
WHEREAS. on January 27, 1983, the Director of Emergency
Services of the City of Santa Monica did proclaim the existence
of a local emergency w1thin the City of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, on February 1, 1983, the City Council adopted
Resolution Number 6621 (CCS), ratifying, confirming, and
approving, the proclamation of local emergency by the Director of
Emergency Services; and

WHEREAS, commencing on March 1, 1983, conditions of extreme
peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen within
the Clty of Santa Monlca caused by sto'rm, h1gh t1des, and heavy
surf: and
WHEREAS, the City Councll was not 1n seSSlon at the t1me of
condltions g2v2ng rise to the emergency; and
WHEREAS, on March 1, 1983, the Director of Emergency
Services of the C2ty of Santa Monica did proclalm the existence
of a local emergency within the City of Santa Monica: and
WHEREAS, on March 8, 1983, the City Council adopted
Resolution Number 6642 (CCS), ratifying, confirming, and
approving, the proclamation of local emergency by the Director of
Emergency Services; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code Section 8630, the C2ty
Counc21 has reviewed the need to continue the local emergency,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Th-e local emergency as proclaimed by the
D1rector of Emergency Services on January 27. 1983, shall be
deemed to continue to eX2st in the City of Santa Monica until its
termination is proclalmed by the City Councll of the Clty of
Santa Mon2ca.
SECTION 2. The local emergency as procla2med by the
D2rector of Emergency Services on March 1, 1983, shall be deemed
to cont2nue to exist in the C2ty of Santa Mon2ca until its
terminatlon 2S proclaimed by the Ci ty Council of the Ci ty of
Sa nta Manl.c a .

SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
~n full force and effect.
