SUBJECT:
Resolution Extending ProclamatIons of Local Emergency
On January 27, 1983, the Dlrector of Emergency Services,
pursuant to MunIcIpal Code Sectlon 2305, proclaImed a local
emergency to eXlst within the Clty of Santa Monlca and made and
issued certain rules and regulations.
On February 1, 1983, the
Clty Council adopted Resolution Number 6621 (CeS) ratifYIng,
conflrmlng, and approvlng the Director of Emergency Services'
proclamatlon of local emergency and the rules, regulatIons, and
actlons taken pursuant thereto.
On March 1, 1983, the Director of Emergency ServIces,
pursuant to Munlcipal Code Section 2305, proclaImed a local
emergency to exist wlthln the City of Santa Monica and made and
issued certaln rules and regulatlons. On March 8, 1983, the Clty
Council
adopted
Resolution
Number
6642 (CCS) ratifYIng,
conflrming, and approving the Director of Emergency ServIces'
proclamation of local emergency and the rules, regulatlons, and
actions taken pursuant thereto.
Government Code Sectlon 8630 requlres that the City Councll
review at least every 14 days the need for contInUIng the local

emergency. At the present time, conditions do not warrant the
termlnatlon of the local emergency.
RECOMMENDATION
It 1S respectfully recommended that the accompanying
resolution be adopted.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA PROCLAIMING THE
CONTINUED EXISTENCE OF THE LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS,
MunicIpal
Code Section 2305 authorizes the
Dlrector of Emergency ServIces to proclaim the existence or
threatened existence of a local emergency when the City of Santa
Monica is affected or lIkely to be affected by a publIC calamity
and the CIty Council is not in seSSion; and
WHEREAS, commenclng on January 27, 1983, conditions of
extreme perIl to the safety of persons and property have arisen
wIthin the City of Santa Monica caused by storm, high tides, and
heavy surfj and
WHEREAS, the City CouncIl was not in session on January 27,
1983i and
WHEREAS, on January 27, 1963, the Dlrector of Emergency
SerVices of the City of Santa Monica did proclaim the eXIstence
of a local emergency within the City of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, on February 1, 1983, the City Council adopted
Resolution

WHEREAS, commencing on March 1, 19B3} conditions of extreme
peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen within
the City of Santa Monica caused by storm, hIgh tides, and heavy
surf; and
WHEREAS, the City Council was not In seSSion at the time of
condItIons gIvIng rise to the emergencyj and
WHEREAS, on March 1, 1983, the DIrector of Emergency
Services of the City of Santa Monica did proclaim the existence
of a local emergency within the City of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, on March a, 1983, the City Council adopted
ResolutIon Number 6642 (GGS), ratIfying, confirming, and
apprOVIng, the proclamation of local emergency by the Director of
Emergency Services; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code SectIon 8630, the City
Council has revIewed the need to continue the local emergency,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The local emergency as proclaImed by the
DIrector of Emergency Services on January 27. 1983~ shall be
deemed to continue to eXIst in the CIty of Santa MonIca until its
terminatlon is proclalmed by the City CounCIl of the City of
Santa Monlca.
SECTION 2. The local emergency as proclaimed by the
DIrector of Emergency Services on March 1, 1983~ shall be deemed
to continue to exist 1n the City of Santa Monica until its
termInation IS proclaImed by the CIty Council of the City of
Santa MonIca.

SECTION 3. The CIty Clerk shall certIfy to the adoption of
thIS ResolutIon, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
