for the alteratlons to the Flre Department Headquarters.

CIty Englneer's Estlmate: $ 62,000
ABCO BUllders CorporatIon, the low bidder, pas asked to be
releasea from theIr bld due to a clerIcal error made ln the bld
documents (see attached letter). Whereas the second low bld lS
more than $40,000 over the budget for this proJect, staff recom-
mends that the Clty Council reJect all bIds for thIS proJect.
Staff wIll reevaluate the desIgn of thIS proJect and modlfy where
feaSlble to reduce the cost.
Budget/Flnanclal Analysis
Funds In the amount of $69,300 are avallable in Account No.
01-730-312-000-903.
Recommendatlon
It IS recommended that the CIty CounCll reJect all blds receIved
for the alteratIons to the FIre Department Headquarters.

Our pnce for thIS work. namely Lockers A & 8, IS $33,300. In actualIty,
the bId whIch ABCO Intended to sub~lt to the C1ty was the summat10n of a
Base B1d (excludlng Lockers A & B) for $65,300. and Lockers A & 8 for
533,300. for a Lump Sum Bld Pr1ce of $98,600.
Unfortunately, the mlstake occurred 1n f1ll1ng out the Bld Propasal form
and $65.300 was IndIcated Instead of the actva1 Lump Sum B1d PrIce of
$98,600. ThIS mlstake wlll make our bid materially dIfferent than A8CO
1ntended it to be.
We do not wlsh to change our bid, but only to have our bld 1nterpreted by
the Clty as we meant to propose It.
We hope that the honorable CIty Counell members WIll conSJder our request
1n llght of the specla1 Clfcumstances outllned above. and 1n light of the
advantage to the CIty and Its taxpayers In awardlng thiS contract to ABCO
BUIlders If the Board IS unable to grant our request, we hereby reqvest
to be released from our b1d on account of the above-referenced m1stake.

lockers mar~ed A, B, K. and L (Alternate #1) ABCO 15 prepared to enter
lnto a contract wlth the Clty of Santa Monlca for the sum of $65,300.00 so
long as lt \5 ecpressly understood that sold contract does not 1nc1ude the
work covered by Alternate #1. namely wooden lockers marked A. 8, K, and l.
We do not wlsh to change our B10, but only to have our bld l\1terpreted
by the Clty as we meant to propose 1t.
