Approval of Resolution to Revise Established Salary
for Park Ranger
SUBJECT:
INTRODUCTION
This report requests the approval of a Resolution revising the
salary rate established for the job specification of Park Ranger.
The current salary rate was established for an as-needed
classification and therefore needs to be revised now that the
classification specification of Park Ranger was changed from an
as-needed classification to a permanent classification as a part
of the Fiscal Year 88-89 budget.
BACKGROUND
The Park Ranger classification is located in the Department of
Cultural
and Recreation
Services,
Parks
Division.
This
classification is responsible for patrolling park grounds and
recreation facilities and enforcing city rules and regulations to
maintain security.
Positions within this classification were
formerly funded on a temporary as-needed basis. As is customary
for such as-needed classifications, incumbents are compensated at
a higher rate as they are not eligible for benefits afforded to
permanent employees. Thus, the salary rate initially established
for Park Ranger was set at a higher rate than that which would
have been established for a permanent classification. Now that

the classificati!!tof Park Ranger has been C~ged to a permanent
classification as a part of the Fiscal Year 88-89 budget, it has
become necessary to revise the salary established for the
classification to reflect this change.
Attached is a Salary Resolution revising the salary rate for the
classification of Park Ranger. The recommnended salary has been
determined based on an analysis of both external and internal
alignment factors.
BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds for the salary costs related to this classification are
included in the budget for Fiscal Year 1988-1989.
RECOMMENDATIONS
It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached
Salary Resolution revising the salary rate established for the
classification of Park Ranger.
