PE:KLB:sb council Meeting: September 26, 1989 Santa Monica, California TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: city Staff Adoption of Resolution Establishing Salary for Civil Engineer/Architect SUBJECT: INTRODUCTION This report requests adoption of the attached salary resolution establishing the salary rate for this classification. BACKGROUND The classification of civil Engineer/Architect is one which is in high demand throughout Southern California. Due to this situation of high demand and low supply, the salary rates for these positions have increased dramatically in the last six months. In order to effectively recruit for this classification, it is necessary for the City to offer salary rates which are competitive in the local labor market. A recent salary survey of comparable cities has indicated that a 4.6 percent increase is necessary at this time to effectively recruit for and fill the two positions which are currently unfilled. BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT Funds are already included in the budget for Fiscal Year 1989-90 to cover all salary costs related to the adoption of this salary resolution. - 1 - ~.T SEP 2 6 1989 J , . . . RECOMMENDATIONS It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached salary resolution establishing the new salary rate for this position classification. Prepared by: Attachments: Karen L.
