Adoption of Resolution Establishing Salary for
Arborist
SUBJECT:
INTRODUCTION
This report requests adoption of the attached salary resolution
establishing the salary rate for Arborist.
BACKGROUND
The Parks Division of the Department of Cultural and Recreation
Services is responsible for managing the City's more than 25,000
trees.
In the past, the classification of Tree Trimming
Supervisor had responsibility for that function.
However, in
view of the number and type of trees involved, staff has
determined that there is a need for a staff member who can
provide more technical expertise in the area of urban forestry
necessary to develop, implement and manage a city-wide urban tree
management program.
The
City
recognized this
need
by
recommending adoption of the Arborist classification and deletion
of the Tree Trimming Supervisor classification as a part of the
FY90-91 budget.
At the time of the adoption of the FY90-01
budget, the classification of Tree Trimming supervisor was
vacant.

A recent salary survey of comparable cities has been conducted
and the salary recommendation reflects current market
compensation.
BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds are included in the budget for Fiscal Year 1990-91 to cover
all salary costs related to the adoption of this salary
resolution.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached salary
resolution establishing the new salary rate for this position
classification.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA ADOPTING SALARY RATE
FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF ARBORIST
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The following monthly salary level is hereby
established for the indicated permanent classification, effective
November 13, 1990.
ARBORIST
$4,156/Month E-Step
($4,447jMonth with FERS)
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
