Subject: Presentation of Cert1ficate to Most Outstanding
General Services Department Employee of the Quarter
to James Salisbury
Introduct1on
The Department of General Services has instituted an Employee Recogn1t1on
Program to honor employees who have shown outstanding init1ative and
resourcefulness in the course of their employment with the City.
Background
In Apr11, 1978, an Employee Recognition Comm1ttee was formed, compr1sed of
superv1sory as well as non-superv1sory personnel in the Department of
General SerVlces. The goal of this peer-group committee is to select and
honor one outstanding employee in this department every three months. The
award will be presented to an employee who has developed a new idea for
sav1ng t1me or money 1n the performance of a City task; contr1buted a new
idea which allows a C1ty task to be done more safely or efficiently;
developed a new tool which contr1butes to time or monetary savings, or
performed the Job 1n such a way as to develop extraordinary publ1C relat10ns.
Presentation
James Salisbury, Mechanic Welder 1n the Mechanical Maintenance Divislon has
been selected to rece1ve th1S award for this quarter. During his long
employment w1th the City, he has 1nvented a number of specialized tools and
devices which are now being used for eff1ciency by City workers. Mr. Salisbury

developed a special tool for use in the Water Divlsion which has sim-
plified the task of water meter replacement. He developed a mechanism
for our refuse collectlon vehicles which enables the Sanitation Division
to adapt one type of vehicle for use wlth various refuse bins, resulting
in saving of time and money for the City.
Mr. Salisbury1s skill in his job as well as his lnventiveness quallfies
him for thlS award of Most Outstanding General Services Employee for
this quarter.
