to Eleventh St. -- Resolution Ordering the Work
Introduction
This report recommends that the City Council approve the attached Resolutlon
ordering the planting of trees on Santa Monica Blvd. from Lincoln Blvd. to
Eleventh St.
Background
The City Council at their meeting on January 23, 1979, adopted Resolution of
Intention No. 5180 for the subject tree planting. This resolution set a
public hearing for February 27, 1979. Notices were posted along Santa Monica
Blvd. as required. Written notices were mailed to the property owners
abutting the project, designating the time and date of the hearing and the
approximate cost to them (see attached copy of the letter).
The City will do the planting and participate in the cost. The estimated
cost to the abutting property owners is $1.75 per front foot.
The property owners may do the planting and appurtenant work themselves. They
would have to plant the designated trees and commence the work within 60 days
from the date of adoption of the resolution ordering the work. If the work
is done by any property owner, there will be no assessment to that property.

It is recommended that the City Council:
1. Hold the public hearing in accordance with the Resolution of
Intention No. 5180 (CCS);
2. Close the public hearing; and
3. Adopt the attached resolution ordering the work.

trees along Santa Monica Boulevard between Lincoln Boulevard

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO PLANT
TREES ALONG SANTA MONICA BLVD. BETWEEN LINCOLN BLVD.
AND ELEVENTH STREET WITHIN THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Monica is
empowered by Section 5870, et seq. of the Streets and Hlghways Code
of the State of California to plant trees at varlOUS locations within
the Clty of Santa Monlca;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the publlC interest requires and it is the
intention of the City Council of the City of Santa Monica to order the
following work to be done, to Wlt: The plantlng of trees along Santa
Monica Blvd. from Lincoln Blvd. to 11th St. all in the City of Santa
Monica. The estimated assessment cost of the improvement is $1.75 per
front foot.
SECTION 2. That said proposed work or improvement in the
opinlon of the City Council of the City of Santa Monica is of more than
local or ordinary public benefit, and said Coune11 hereby proposes that
the distrlct in the City of Santa Monica to be benefited by said work or
lmprovement and to be assessed to pay the cost and expense thereof,
includes all of the property abuttlng Santa Monica Blvd. between Llncoln nlvd.
and 11th St.
SECTION 3. Notlce hereby is given pursuant to sald Sectlon
5870 et seq. that on February 27, 1979, at the hour of 7:30 p.m. in the
Councll Chambers in the City Hall of sald City of Santa Monica, situated
at 1685 Maln St. in said City, any and all persons having any objections

to the proposed work or improvement may appear before the City Council
and show cause why the said said proposed work or improvement should not
be carried out in accordance wlth said Resolution of Intention.
SECTION 4. The Superlntendent of Streets immedlately shall
cause to be conspicuously posted along the line of sald contemplated
improvement notice of the passage of this Resolution of Intention in the
manner and form prescribed by law.
The City Clerk hereby is directed to mail notlces, in the
manner and form prescribed by law, of the adoption of thlS resolution to
all persons owning real property in the hereinbefore described assessment
district, whose names and addresses appear on the last equalized assessment
roll for city taxes or as known to the City Clerk.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full
force and effect.
