Introduction
ThlS report recommends that the City Councll hold a Public Hearing and approve
the attached Resolution ordering the plantlng of trees on Santa Monica Blvd.
from 17th Street to 20th Street.
Background
The City Council at its meeting on September 25. 1979. adopted Resolutlon of
Intention No. 5406 (Item 6-1) for the subJect tree plantlng. ThlS resolution set a
public hearing for November 13, 1979. Notices were posted along Santa Monica
Blvd. as required. Wrltten notices were mal led to the property owners abutting
the project, designating the time and date of the hearing and the approximate
cost to them (see attached copy of the letter).
The C1ty will do the plantlng (except for owners who may wish to do so) and
will participate in the cost. The estimated cost to the abuttlng property
owners is $1.75 per front foot.
The property owners may do the planting and appurtenant work themselves and
they will have to plant the designated trees and commence the work wlthln 60
days from the date of adoption of the resolutlon orderlng the work. If the
work is done by any property owner, there wlll be no assessment to that
property.

Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council:
1. Hold the public hearing in accordance with the Resolution of Intention
No. 5406 (C.C.S.);
2. Close the public hearing; and
3. Adopt the attached resolution ordering the work.

Dear Property Owner:
At a regular meetlng held on September 25, 1979, the City Councll
adopted Resolutlon ~o. 5406(CC5) declaring the intent to plant
trees along Santa ~onlca Boulevard between Seventeenth Street and
Twentieth Street in the City of Santa Monica.
The estimated assessment cost of the tree planting of $1.75 per
front foot will be assessed to the district benefiting from the
improvement. This lncludes all of the property abutting Santa
Monica Boulevard between Seventeenth Street and Twentieth Street.
In order for any and all persons obJecting to the proposed tree
planting to have the opportunity to address the City Council, a
publlC hearing has been set for November 13, 1979 at 7:30 P.M.
to be held ln the Councll Chambers, City Hall, 1685 Main Street,
Santa Monlca, California. A copy of Resolution No. 5406(CCS)
is attached for your information.
This letter and resolution are being mailed to all property
owners In the affected area.

SANTA MONICA ORDERING THE PLANTING OF TREES ALONG
SANTA MONICA BLVD. BETWEEN 17TH STREET AND 20TH
STREET~ IN ACCORDANCE WITH RESOLUTION OF INTENTION

WHEREAS~ the City Council of the City of Santa Monica~ on
the 25th day of September, 1979. passed and adopted lts Resolutlon of
Intention~ being Resolution No. 5406 (City Council Ser1es)~ to order the
work descrlbed therein to be done. which in accordance with said Resolu-
tion of Intention duly and legally notices were posted along the l1ne
of the proposed project and wrltten notlces of said improvement have been
given in the manner required by law and any and all wr1tten objectlons
and protests to the work or the extent of the distrlct to be assessed
were heard and considered by the City Council.
NOW. THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the publlC interest requires, and the Clty
Council of the City of Santa Monica hereby orders the tree planting
described in said ReSDlution of Intention to be done along Santa Monica
Blvd. between 17th Street and 20th Street within the City of Santa Monlca.
That all of sald protests and objections of every klnd and nature to the
proposed work or to the extent of the district to be assessed be and the
same hereby are overruled and denled.
SECTION 2. That Street Superintendent hereby is directed
to COMmence the tree planting above described after a 60-day period wherever
the property owners have not started the tree planting project themselves.

SECTION 3. Reference hereby is made to said Resolution of
Intention for a map of the assessment district, and for further particulars.
SECTION 4. The Clty Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be In full
force and effect.
