SECTION 2.
All protests and ob] ectlons of every klnd and

Avenue to 21st Street as descr~bed ln Sectlcn I, all withln t~e
Clty of Santa Monlca, be, and the same and are hereby, overruled
and denied.
SECTION 3.
The estlmate of the cost of the improvement 1S
changed from $157,OOO.OG to $290,000.00.
SECTION 4.
Pursuant to Streets and H1ghways Code SeetlOD
5225, the Street Superintendent is d~rected to commence the
planting of trees on Wilshire Boulevard between Ocean Avenue and
21st street
SECTION 5. The C~ty Clerk shall certlfy to the adoptlon of
this Resolut~on, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.

Wlth reference to the attached Notlce, please be advlsed
that the Mlramar Sheraton Hotel has III fact lustalled and planted
trees along Wllsh~re Boulevard from Ocean Avenue to 2nd Street and
should not be ~ncluded ~n thlS assessment. Th~s was done as requlred
by the Clty several years ago and need not be repeated.
On the same subJect, we flnd that serious problems exist
ln the sldewalk that have requlred extenslve expense and danger to
publ~c safety when these trees are not planted ~n the manner to
prov~de for thelr growth, root expans~on and sldewalk t~lt~ng.
We would recommend that approprlate steps be taken along the
fol1ow~ng l~nes:
1. That the trees be~ng planted are "dwarfll or "sem~-dwarf"
vaTletles;
2. That brlcks, stone or other mater~als susceptlble of
movement are placed 1n a dlameter of at least 36 lnches around the
tree itself for root expans1on; and
3. That varletles be used that have tap roots or non-surface
expandlug root systems to prevent sldewalk tllting from expans1on.
We feel lt important that thIS proJect, costlng $157,000.00
be glven the personal attentlon of suitable consultants and professlonals
so that the end result WIll be a POSItIve lmprovement for years to come
and not a source of problems, expense and hazard to publIC safety.

Re: Tree Planting on wilshire Boulevard Between Ocean Avenue
and 21st Street
This letter is legal notice as required by the Improvement Act of
1911 proceedings under which the above work will be done.
You are hereby notified that the City Council of the City of
Santa Monica, California, adopted Resolution No. 7590 (CCS) on
March 29, 1988, declaring its intention to plant trees, declaring
the work to be of more than local ordinary public benefit, and
that a portion of the expense thereof shall be assessed upon a
district. Commercial property owners will be assessed $3.00 per
linear foot for planting trees. RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES WILL NOT
BE ASSESSED.
A public hearing regarding the proposed improvement will be held
at 7:30 P.M., May 10, 1988, in the Council Chambers, City Hall,
1685 Main street, Santa Monica, California 90401. All protests
regarding this matter must be filed in writing in the Office of
the City Clerk before said time, and all protests so filed will
be considered by the City Council at that time. Each protest
must contain a description of the property in which each signer
thereof is interested.
The total project cost is estimated to be approximately $157,500.
The amount to be assessed upon the district for this improve=e~~
is apP~.:lxi:mately $32,400. Records available indicate you own
property in the above district. Requests for copies of the
Resolution of Intention which contain further particulars on this
assessment and all questions regarding the proposed improvement
may be directed to the Office of the Director of General Services
at 458-822l.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
Re: Tree Planting on Wilshire Boulevard Between Ocean Avenue
and 21st street
This let~er is legal notice as required by the Improvement Act of
1911 proceedings under which the above work will be done.
You are hereby notified that the City Council of the city of
Santa Monicar California, adopted Resolution No. 1590 (CCS) on
March 29, 1988, declaring its intention to plant trees, declaring
the work to be of more than local ordinary public benefit, and
that a portion of the expense thereof shall be assessed upon a
district. Commercial property owners will be assessed $3.00 per
linear foot for planting trees. RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES WILL NOT
BE ASSESSED.
A public hearing regarding the proposed improvement will be held
at 7:30 P.M., May 10, 1988, in the Council Chambers, City Hall,
1685 Main Street, Santa Monica, California 90401. All protests
regarding this matter must be filed in writing in the Office of
the City Clerk before said time, and all protests so filed will
be cons idered by the city Council at that time. Each protest
must contain a description of the property in Which each signer
thereof is interested.
The total project cost is estimated to be approximately $157,500.
The amount to be assessed upon the district for this improve~e~~
is apP:::-:lxin';ately $32,400. Records available indicate you ov;n
property in the above district. Requests for copies of the
Resolut~on of Intention which contain further particulars on this
assessment and all questions regarding the proposed improvement
may be directed to the Office of the Director of General Services
at 458-8221.
