SUBJECT: Landscaping of Addit10n to Palisades Park at
Foot of ~~ontana
Introduction
Th1S report recommends approval of landscape plans for the addition to Palisades
Park created by the narrowing Ocean Avenue at Montana.
Background
In June 1980, Council approved an alteration to Ocean Avenue at Montana, that reduced
the width of Ocean Avenue and created additional park space. The area 1S approximately
22 feet w1de x 195 feet long - 4290 sq. feet, Because of the shape and location of
that area, a rather simple landscape design is d1ctated by adjacent existing park
plantings, It 1S proposed that 5 Phoenix palms be planted down the center of the
space at 40 foot intervals The rest of the area will be planted 1n turf. At the
Montana Ave. crosswalk. Boxwood hedge will be planted on both sides of the entrance
conSlstent with other entranceways to Palisades Park, Automatic irrigation is lncluded,
Funds forlandscaping were budgeted as part of the anginal project at $1 per sq. foot.
These funds would ordinarily be adequate. In this case, however, use of specimen
trees would cost an addltlonal 5500 each.
Plans will be available at the Council meeting.
Recommendatlon
It is recommended that the Clty Council approve the landscape plans for the addition
to Pallsades Park at Montana Avenue, It 1S further recommended that Council
approprlate and authorize an additional expend1ture of $2500
far speC1men trees.
