Street Tree Planting on Lincoln Boulevard from Pacific Street

IntrodlIction
This report recommends that the City Council approve the attached Resolution
of Intention for planting trees on Lincoln Boulevard from Pacific Street
to Ocean Park Boulevard.
Background
The City Council at their meeting on April 26, 1977, authorized the City
Staff to proceed on a tree planting program on Lincoln Boulevard in eight
separate assessment districts in accordance with Chapter 27 of the Improvement
Act of 1911. The portion of Lincoln Boulevard from Pacific Street to Ocean
Park Boulevard is the flfth of the eight districts.
The City will do the planting and participate in the cost with Gas Tax Funds.
The estimated assessment cost to the abutting property owners is $1.50 per
front foot,
Recommem:ia-tion
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached Resolution of
Intention which sets a public hearing for August 22, 1978.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUnCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO PLANT TREES
ALONG LINCOLI'l BOULEVARD BET\'JEEN PACIFIC STREET AND
OCENJ PARK BOULEVARD HITHIN THE CITY OF SANTA rmNICA,
(TREE PLANTItlG DISTRICT NO.5)
~lHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa tlonica is
empowered by Section 5870, et seq. of the Streets and Highways Code of
the State of California to plant trees at various locations wlthin the
City of Santa nonica;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the public interest requires and it is the
intention of the City Council of the City of Santa Monica to order the
following work to be done, to wit: The planting of trees along Lincoln
Boulevard from Pacific Street to Ocean Park 30ulevard all in the City of
Santa Monica. The estimated assessment cost of the improvement is $1.50
per front foot to the abutting property owners and the balance of the cost
to be borne by the City.
SECTION 2. That said proposed work or improvement, in the
opinion of the City Council of the City of Santa Monica, is of more than
local or ordinary public benefit, and said Council hereby proooses that
the district in the City of Santa Monica to be benefitted by said work or
improvement and to be assessed to pay the cost and expense thereof~ includes
all of the property abutting Lincoln Boulevard between Pacific Street and
Ocean Park Boulevard.

SECTION 3. Notice hereby is given pursuant to said Section 5870
et seq. that on August 22, 1978, at the hour of 7:30 p.m. in the Council
Chambers of the C1ty Hall of said C1ty of Santa Moo1ca, situated at
1685 Main Street in said City, any and all persons having any objections to
the proposed work or improvement may appear before the City Counc,l and
show cause why the said oroposed work or improvement should not be carried out
in accordance with said Resolution of Intention.
SECTIO~ 4. The Suoerintendent of Streets immediately shall cause to
be conspicuously posted along the line of said contemplated improvement
notice OT the passage of this Reso1ution of fntention in the manner and
form prescribed by law.
The City Clerk hereby 15 d1rected to mail notices, in the man~er and
form prescribed by law, of the adoption of this resolution to all persons
owning real prDp~rty in the hereinbefore d€sc~ibed assessment district~
whose names and addresses appear on the last equalized assessment ro11 for
city taxes or as known to the City Clerk.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
r2so1ution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in ful I force
and effect.
