SUBJECT: Street Tree Planting on Lincoln Boulevard from Broadway Avenue
to Wilshire Blvd.
Introductlon
ThlS report recommends that the City Council approve the attached
Resolution of Intention for planting trees on Lincoln Boulevard from
Broadway Avenue to Wilshire Boulevard.
Background
The City Council at thelr meeting on Aprll 26, 1977, authorized the
Clty Staff to proceed on a tree planting program on Llncoln Boulevard in
eight separate assessment districts in accordance with Chapter 27 of the
Improvement Act of 1911. The portion of Lincoln Boulevard from Broadway
to Wilshire is the third of the eight districts. Plantlng in the first
section between Broadway and the Freeway is ln process now, and the
planting on the second section between the Freeway and PleD will begln
SOOI1.
The Clty will do the planting and partlcipate in the cost with Gas Tax
Funds. The estimated assessment cost to the abutting property owners is
$1.50 per front foot. Fifty-seven properties are in this proJect,

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO
PLANT TREES ALONG LINCOLN BOULEVARD BETWEEN
BROADWAY AVENUE AND WILSHIRE BOULEVARD vJITHIN
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Monica is
empowered by Section 5870t et seq. of the Streets and Highways Code of
the State of California to plant trees at various locations within the
City of Santa Monica;
NOW, THEREFOREt THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS;
SECTION 1. That the public interest requires and it is the
intention of the City Council of the City of Santa Monica to order the
following work to be done, to wit: The planting of trees along Lincoln
Boulevard from Broadway Avenue to Wilshire Boulevard all in the City
of Santa Monica. The esti~ated assessment cost of the improvement is

$1,50 per front foot to the abutting property owners and the balance of
the cost to be borne by the City.
SECTION 2. That said proposed work or improvement, in the
opinion of the City Counci1 of the City of Santa Monica, is of more than
local or ordinary public benefit, and said Council hereby proposes that
the district in the City of Santa Monica to be benefitted by said work
or improvement and to be assessed to pay the cost and expense thereof,
includes all of the property abutting Lincoln Boulevard between Broad~ray
Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard.

SECTION 3. Notice hereby is given pursuant to said
Section 5870 et seq. that on January 10, 1978, at the hour of 7:30 p.m.
in the Council Chambers of the City Hall of said City of Santa Monica,
situated at 1685 Main Street in said City, any and all persons having
any objections to the proposed work or improvement may appear before the
City Council and show cause why the said proposed work or improvement
should not be carried out in accordance with said Resolution of Intention.
SECTION 4. The Superintendent of Streets immediately shall
cause to be conspicuously posted along the line of said contemplated
improvement notice of the passage of this Resolution of Intention in the
manner and form prescribed by law.
The City Clerk hereby is dlrected to mail notices, in the manner
and form prescribed by law, of the adoption of this resolution to all
persons owning real property in the hereinbefore described assessment
district, whose names and addresses appear on the last equalized assessment

roll for city taxes or as known to the City Clerk.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full
force and effect.
