Introduction
ThlS report requests the City Council set a pub11C hearing to order the
planting of trees on Colorado Avenue between 4th Street and Lincoln Blvd.
Ba~kground
In coordlnation wlth the opening of Santa Monlca Place and the street resur-
facing program on Broadway and Colorado, staff 15 requesting City Council
create a tree assessment district on Colorado between 4th Street and Lincoln
Blvd. The property owners would be assessed $1.75 per front foot for the
p1antlng and the City would pay the remalnder of the cost out of Gas Tax Funds.
This district lS parallel to the tree district established on Broadway at the
July 22. 1980 Council meeting (Item 6-K).
Recommendation
It lS recommended the City Counc1l adopt the attached resolutlon settlng a
public hearing for September 9, 1980, ordering the plantlng of trees.

RESOLUTION NO. 6062
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO PLANT TREES
ALONG COLORADO AVENUE BETWEEN FOURTH STREET AND LINCOLN
BOULEVARD WITHIN THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
WHEREAS, the City Counc11 of the City of Santa Monica 1S
empowered by Section 5870, et seq., of the Streets and ~ighways Code of the
State of California to plant trees at various locations within the City of
Santa Monica:
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the publ1C interest requires and it is the
1ntention of the City Council of the C1ty of Santa Monica to order the following
work to be done, to W1t: The planting of trees along Colorado Avenue from
Fourth Street to Lincoln Boulevard all 1n the C1ty of Santa Monica. The estimated
cost of the improvement is $1.75 per front foot to the abutting property owners
and the balance of the cost is to be borne by the City.
SECTION 2. That said proposed work or improvement, in the
opinlon of the City Councl1 of the City of Santa Monica, is of more than local
or ordinary public benefit, and said Council hereby proposes that the distr1ct
in the City of Santa Monica to be benefitted by said work or improvement and
to be assessed to pay the cost and expense thereof, includes all of the property
abutting Colorado between Fourth Street and lincoln Boulevard.
SECTION 3. Not1ce hereby is given pursuant to sald Section
5870 et seq. that on September 9, 1980, at the hour of 7:30 p.m. 1n the Council
Chambers of the C1ty Hall of sa1d City of Santa Monica, situated at 1685 Ma1n
Street 1n said City, any and all persons hav1ng any Objections to the proposed

work or lmprovement may appear before the City Council and show cause why
the sald p~oposed work or improvement should not be carried out in accordance
with sald Resolution of Intention.
SECTION 4. The Superintendent of Streets immediately shall
cause to be conspicuously posted along the line of said contemplated improve-
ment notice of the passage Of this Resolution of Intention in the manner and
form prescribed by law.
The City Clerk hereby is dlrected to mail notices, in the
manner and form prescribed by law, of the adoption of thlS resolution to all
persons owning real property in the herelnbefore described assessment dlstrict
whose names and addresses appear on the last equalized assessment roll for
Clty taxes or as known to the City Clerk.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolutlon and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force
and effect.
