Presentation of Tree City USA Award
INTRODUCTION
This report requests that the city council officially receive our
sixth Tree City USA award at the meeting of April 28, 1987.
BACKGROUND
Tree City USA is a program sponsored by the National Arbor Day
Foundation to promote tree preservation, and to recognize those
cities who support tree planting and preservation. For the sixth
year in a row, Santa Monica has met the requirements of having:
(1) a tree ordinance: (2) a designated tree governing body: (3) a
specific tree maintenance budget: and (4) an Arbor Day
observance. For 1986 there are 14 cities in Los Angeles County
designated "Tree city USA" and 61 cities statewide.
This year's award will be presented to the Council by Los Angeles
County Senior Deputy Forester Joe Ferrara.
RECOMMENDATION
staff recommends that the City Council officially receive the
Tree city USA Award and acknowledge receipt of the award with a
letter of appreciation to the National Arbor Day Foundation,
which sponsors the Tree City USA program.
