RECOMMENDATION TO RECEIVE TREE CITY USA AWARD
INTRODUCTION
This report requests Council officially receive the City of Santa
Monica's eighth Tree city USA award.
BACKGROUND
Tree City USA is a program sponsored by the National Arbor Day
Foundation to promote tree preservation and to recognize those
cities who support tree planting and preservation.
For the
eighth year in a row, Santa Monica has met the requirements of
having: (1) a tree ordinance; (2) a designated tree governing
body; (3) a specific tree maintenance budget: (4) an Arbor Day
observance. For 1988 there are 19 cities in Los Angeles County
designated "Tree City USA" and 86 cities statewide.
This year's award will be presented to the Council by the Los
Angeles County Fire Department, Forestry Division.

RECOMMENDATION
staff recommends that the city council officially receive the
Tree City USA Award and acknowledge same, in writing, to the
National Arbor Day Foundation.
