Introduction This report requests that the City Council award a contract for lighting improvements to the Transportation Department Maintenance Facility to California Electrical Services, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $120,985.00. Background The City Council has appropriated funds for Transportation facility improvement projects including improvements to the Maintenance Facility lighting system. Plans and specifications to increase lighting at floor level to 100 candle power were prepared by Storms & Lowe consulting Engineers and reviewed and approved by the City Engineer's Office. Lighting at designated workstations will be improved by installing new fixtures and lamps in the facility. A notice inviting bids was published on March 7 and 8, 1988 in the Evening Outlook and in four construction journals. Bidding documents were also forwarded to seven minority/women contracting associations. - 1 - b-M MAV 2 It 1981 . . . The bidders and their bids were as follows: California Electrical Services $120,985.00 Safelectric Company $134,000.00 City Engineer's Estimate: $137,358.00 $151,415.00 $168,000.00 $160,000.00 Dewco General Contractors & Developers winmax Construction Corporation (DBE) Vasco corporation staff checked references submitted by the low bidder, California Electrical Services. Persons interviewed were generally satisfied with the quality of work performed by California Electrical Services. Budget/Financial Analysis Appropriation authority is available in Account No. 41-750-675-000-908 in the amount of $120,985.00. Recommendations It is recommended that the City Council: 1. Award a construction contract for lighting improvements at the Transportation Department Maintenance Facility to the lowest responsible bidder, California Electrical Services, in the amount of $120,985.00; and - 2 - , . .
