SUBJECT: A Recommendatlon for Remodellng for Flnance Department
for Parklng Flne Collection
Introduction
ThlS report recommends that remodellng work be done to create a facillty
for Parklng Fine Collectlon by the Flnance Department.
Background
The Clty Councll, as a part of the budget actlons. approved $150,000 to
change the Parklng C1tatlon collectlon from the County to the C1ty. ThlS
act10n was necessary since the Santa Monlca Munic1pal Court had requested
the City of Santa Monica to take over the processlng of parking cltatlons.
Clty staff has chosen an unused portion of the police faCllity for thjs
use. The improvements Wh1Ch are necessary are lnter10r partit1ons, a
counter, llghtlng and heating and ventilatlng changes. ThlS work can
be accompllshed most exped10usly by lssu1ng a change order for approximately
S40,OOO to the contractor who is completlng City Hall thlrd floor add1t1on.
The change order would be less than 10% of the contract. An alternatlve
1S to advertise for formal bids for thlS proJect. A delay in constructlon
of at least three months wlll occur lf a change order 1S not authorlzed.
This delay will result in loss of revenue of an amount approx1mately equal
to the antlc1pated cost of the improvements.
Recommendat1on
It 1S recommended Clty Council approve expendltures not to exceed $45.000
