JUt 2 8 1~~7 a ~ orn~a , ~ GS:SS:EHL:a Council Meeting: July 28, 1987 Santa Monica, To: Mayor and City Council From: city staff Subject: Request for City council to Adopt a Resolution to Increase Prices at woodlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum Introduction This report requests that the City Council adopt a resolution to increase prices for property and services at Woodlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum. Background In accordance with Ordinance No. 1013 (September 10, 1975), the prices for all property and services throughout Woodlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum are established from time to time by resolution of the City Council. The current prices were established by Resolution No. 6636 (February 22, 1983). since that time, the Cemetery operating expenses have increased significantly due to the price inflation of labor, insurance, gasoline, replacement parts, equipment, etc. since Woodlawn must remain competitive, the proposed prices are comparable to those charged by other area cemeteries and mausoleums. Attachment 11111 is a regional price comparison. BUdget/Financial Impact The following table details the projected revenue increase based on the proposed prices: ~-(!, JUl 2 8 1981 - 1 - . . (1431 Ocean Ave., Santa Monica, CA 90401) I need your help in making a ruling on reserved crypts in the Santa Monica Woodlawn Cemetery. The officials at the cemetery suggested I would need to speak to the City Council. On July 13, 1987 I purchased a crypt for my father who passed away on July 12. At that time I reserved f,ve more crypts for the remainder of my family to be near my father. I paid in full for my father's interment. I requested to make a down payment on the other five crypts and was'told that I could not do that. I as~ed for a ninety day period to complete payment on the other five crypts. The cemetary officia15 did not know if I could be assured of the current rates in that case -- if you vote to raise the prices. 1 would like permission to make a down payment or be assured that the price when the crypts were reserved could be guaranteed. I would appreciate any help or clarification you could offer. Thank you. )vU clwL-/ l ~ LY2c k- ~ Telephone 393-2563 fl" a~?<-LfZ"- L; / ~ cl~~ Cf/ e~~r C' / /!blJ I-tJ h-<: JUl 2 R 1981 ,
