I would lIke to get scheduled to make a
presentatIon to the CIty CouncIl at the early February
seSSIon.
My specIfIC Interest IS help the communIty develop
the MIles Playhouse at LIncoln Park. Knol,.nng that It
may be torn down due to structure problems, I would lIke
to express my Interest In eIther restorIng the Playhouse
or workIng to ensure that a simIlar publIC performance
space be bUIlt In Its place. ~y concern IS not necessarIly
the bUIlding, itself. My Interest IS to work WIth the CIty
of Santa MonIca to help adminIstrate a theater similar to
the Pasadena Playhouse. It would, though, be Ideal In
my VIew to restore the eXIstIng MIles Playhouse as a
CalIfornIa hIstorIcal SIte. Although I haven't seen the
Interlor~ I belIeve there IS enough space for profeSSIonal
theater productIons and a substantIal audIence. The bottom
lIne IS that Santa MonIca has a locatIon and structure
that, If prepared properly, could become an attractIve
center for draWIng tourists and reSIdents.
I have been Involved in theater dIrectIon and
producing entertainment events for twenty years. I formed
a theater department at St. Thomas UniverSIty In MIamI.
I created and dIrected a profeSSIonal summer theater at
Clear Lake, Iowa. I developed a theater ~orksh~p In
Hollywood for a productIon that WIll appear on PBS
As a playwrIght, my work has been staged around the country
and on NatIonal PublIC RadIO. I have been in touch WIth
the L.A. theater scene, SInce appearIng In plays In the
early 1970's. I have also been successful at fundraIslng
for the Arts.
