Request to Appropriate State Bond Act of 1980 Funds for
Construction of Backstop at Memorial Park
I NTRODUCTI ON
This report recommends that the City Council appropriate State Bond Act of
1980 funds in the amount of $15,271. The funds will used to replace a
baseball backstop at Memorial Park.
BACKGROUND
In 1982, the C1ty received Grant #80-19106 from the State Bond Act of 1980 in
the amount of $269,491 for the installation of new athletic field lightlng 1n
Memorial Park. The project was completed 1n 1984 leaving an unspent balance
of $9,634 plus $5,637 of accumulated interest for a total of $15,271. When
the proJect was completed, the appropriation lapsed.
Clty Staff requested, and the State has approved, an amendment to the Grant
allow1ng the $15,271 to be used for a replacement of a backstop at Memorial
Park. There are three hardball and three softball backstops at Memor1al Park.
These funds w1ll be used to replace the softball backstop which requires the
most maintenance. AdJacent fence panels, paving and player benches are
included. The final product will look slmllar to the Stewart Park backstop.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT
Funds will be reimbursed to the M1scellaneous Grants Fund account

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Clty Councll:
1) Appropriate funds ln the amount of $15,271 ln Recreation and Parks account
#20-740-511-000-919.
2) Increase the revenue budget by $15,271 in account #20-932-346-000-000.
