SUBJECT: Donation of Surplus Equipment
Introduction
This report concerns the donation of surplus fire department equipment to
the Mazatlan Fire Department.
Surrmary
The Santa ~~nica Fire Department is salvaging short duration breathing ap-
paratus. The equipment is approximately nine years old and no longer meets
the requirements of N.I.O.S.H. or Cal/OSHA. In view of the non-approved
status, it was determined that the normal bid procedure for salvage items
would be inappropriate.
The Mazatlan Fire Department has been contacted, and they have indicated a
desire to obtain the equipment.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution do-
nating surplus equipment to the Mazatlan Fire Department as part of the
Sister City program.

\ffiEREAS, the City of Santa ~onica presently has in
storage twenty-two (22) cOIDDlete breathing units of the lS-ninute
type; and
h~EP~AS, these units are approxi~ately nine years old
and do not neet CAL/OSHA (California/Occupational Safety & Health
Administration) or NIOSH (National Instltute of Occupational
Safety & Health) requirements for breathing apparatus, and
1lliEREAS, these units can be utillzed to good advantage,
within their limitatlons,
NOW, THE?~FORE, THE CITY COU~CIL OF THE CITY OF SA~TA
~mNICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOPS.
SECTION 1. That the City Council donate the equipment
to Santa lIonica's sister city, Hazatlan, B. C.
SECTION 2. That this donation be made via the Sister
Clty Committee
SECTIO~ 3. That the Mazatlan, B C. Fire DeoartNent
has advised that they would greatly appreciate the gift.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adootion
of this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the saTIe shall
be in full force and effect.
