SUBJECT. Recommendation to reject bid for concrete construction.
Bid No. 1371.
Introduction
This report concerns rejection of the sole bid received for con-
crete construction and metal work at Joslyn Park.
Background
It response to published Notice Inviting Bids to construct concrete
retaining walls, stairs, railings and other work in accordance with
specifications, one (1) bid was received and publicly opened and
read in the office of the City Manager May 9, 1978. Proposal forms
were mailed to seventeen (17) construction companies and notices
were advertised in accordance with city charter and municipal code
provisions
The sole bid rece1ved, that of R McAlpine Construction
Company, in the amount of $23,997.00, 16 more than three (3) times
greater than the initial engineering estimate. It is considered
that the minimal response and the wide variation beDNeen bid and
estimate are due to the current high level of activity in the COTI-
struction industry.
Reconnnendation
It is recommended that the sole bid received for concrete construc-
tion at Joslyn Park be rejected.
