SUBJECT: Reconnnenda tion to Award Bid to Provide Trimming of
Ficus Trees, Phoenix Palms, Fan Palms, Podacarpus,
Casuarina and Carob Trees, Bid #2261
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to provide trimming of ficus
trees, phoenix palms, fan palms, podacarpus, casuarina and carob
trees for the Cultural and Recreation services Department, at
specified unit prices, including applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published
December 4 and 5, 1989) to provide trimming of ficus trees,
phoenix palms, fan palms, podacarpus, casuarina and carob trees
in accordance with city specifications, bids were received and
publicly opened and read on December 28, 1989. Proposal forms
were mailed to eight vendors and notices were advertised in
accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions.

Cost of a representative array of trimming miscellaneous trees:
Travers Tree Service, Inc. $113,160
united Pacific corporation $125,905
West Coast Arborists, Inc. $158,070
Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets city
specifications. Staff has checked the references and finds the
low bidder to be a reputable company.
BUdget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1989/90 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Cultural and Recreation Services Department, account
number 01-400-512-00000-5501-00000.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2261 be made to Travers
Tree Service, Inc. , at specified unit prices, including
applicable tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
