SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
Non-Asbestos Abex Brake Blocks, New Brake Shoes and
Miscellaneous Timkin Bearings and Chicago Rawhide
Seals, Bid #2262
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver
non-asbestos Abex brake blocks, new brake shoes and miscellaneous
Timkin bearings and Chicago Rawhide seals for the Transportation
Department, at specified unit prices, including applicable sales
tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published
December 18 and 19, 1989) to furnish and deliver non-asbestos
Abex brake blocks, new brake shoes and miscellaneous Timkin
bearings and Chicago Rawhide seals in accordance with City
specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read
on January 9, 1990. Proposal forms were mailed to eleven vendors
and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and
Municipal Code provisions.

Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets City
specifications.
Budget/Financial Impact
As the materials are drawn out of inventory, they will be
expensed against available Fiscal Year 1989/90 appropriation
authority. For the period July 1, 1990 through June 30, 1991,
appropriation authority will be as set forth in the FY 1990/91
budget.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2262 be made to
Universal Coach Parts, Inc. at specified unit prices, including
applicable tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
