SUBJECT: Recommendation to reject bid for sandblasting service
Bid No. 1458.
Introduction
This report concerns rejection of the sole bid received for removal
by sandblasting of pavement markings as directed by the Department of
Parking and Traffic Engineering during the period July 1, 1979 through
June 30, 1980.
Background
Proposal packages calling for a fixed-price one-year contract were
mailed to twenty-two (22) sandblasting companies and notices were
advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code prov1sions.
One (1) bid was received, that of Ace Sandblasting Company, calling for
ninety-five cents (95c;:) per square foot with a minimum charge per call of
four-hundred dollars ($400.00). The price charged by the current con-
tractor, from whom no bid was received, is .347 cents per square foot.
The staff considers that the City's interests will be best served by
calling for bids for specific projects as needed rather than entering a
yearly contract on the bases of the sole bid received.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the sole bid received for sandblasting service
be rejected.
