ThlS report transmlts for flrst readlng an ordlnance
amendlng Sectlon 7501, 7502, and 7504 of Chapter 5, Artlcle VII
of the Santa Monlca Munlclpa1 Code to allow fees for maps, drawlngs
and speclflcatLons to be set DV Resolutlon.
BACKGROUND
Sectlon 7501 se~tlng fees for maps and drawlngs was
revlsed ln 1970; Sectlon 7502 setting fees for standard speclfl-
catlons was revlsed In 1951. The old fees no longer cover the
City's costs on these ltems.
If these sectlons are amended to
allow these fees to be set by Resol'.ltlon then the fees can be
perlodlcally adJusted by the Councll when ~ecessary.
The proposed Resolution to be adopted at the second
readlng of thlS ordlnance would lncrease the fee for reproduclble
prlnts from $1.25 for the flrst sauare foot and $:25 for each
addltlonal square foot to $1.25 for the flrst square foot and
$.70 for each addltlonal square foot. The fee for standard
speclflcatlons would be changed from $3.50 to the Clty'S cost
plus 10%.

Sect10n 7504 does not prov1de for the cost of postage
and handling when a document 13 not plcked up 1n person. ThlS
ordlnance would add a sentence to Sectlon 7504 stat1ng that the
Clty Englneer may charge malllng and handllng fees If necessary.
ALTERNATIVES
The Clty Council may accept, reject or amend the
proposed ordlnance.
RECO~~ENDATION
It 15 respectfully recommended that the Clty Councll
introduce thlS ordlnance allowing fees for maps, drawlngs
and speclflcations to be set by Resolutlon and allowing postage
and handllng to be charged ~hen approprlate.
